Sprint Car Racing

410 Sprint Car Racing is one of the most popular style of racing in Pennsylvania. There are two classes when it comes to 410's in PA. One class of drivers are the PA Posse, which is the driver's who race on PA dirt tracks every weekend. Then the other class of drivers are the World of Outlaws, which are the driver's who race on dirt tracks all over the World. The World of Outlaws come to Williams Grove Speedway twice a year for two days each time. At the Grove, the driver's battle for the title and this is usually refered to as PA Posse vs. World of Outlaws.


A sprint car is defined as a racing vehicle of single seat design, built up on a racing chassis and mounted on four racing wheels. The car consists of a frame, hood, top and front wing, front and back axels, fuel tank, shocks, drivelines and the engine. The wings are usually from Top Wing company. Also the wings have to be a specific size set for the track. For the tires, the back tires have to be the brand of Goodyear tires. The back tires have to follow the rule of the race tracks unless stated in the drivers meeting.The back tires come in all different sizes and these tires are run mostly according to the track that the driver is racing at. The front tires can be whatever brand you want to run.


The are various tracks in Pennsylvania that race on Friday or Saturday nights that host the 410 race cars. The race track that normally hosts 410s on Friday nights is Williams Grove Speedway located outside of Mechanicsburg, PA. There are two tracks that normally host 410s on Saturday nights : Lincoln Speedway located in Abbotstown, PA and Port Royal Speedway located in Port Royal, PA. When in comes to Speedweek, the 410s race at Lincoln, Port Royal, Williams Grove, Bedford, Selinsgrove and Hagerstown. Special races are raced at Lernerville, Grandview, Mercer and Susquehanna.



Sprint car drivers come from all over to drive these cars. Since 410 racing as started there has been a couple of legends created : Keith Kauffman, Steve Kinser, and Doug Wolfgang. Keith Kauffman is a local driver from our area, Mifflintown, PA. He has earned the nickname of "The Man from Mifflintown". He started racing in 1970 and is still racing strong right now in the 410 divison. He has 130 wins at his home track, Port Royal. In 2004, he was induced into the Sprint Car Hall of Frame in Knoxville. Steve Kinser is a World of Outlaw driver from Bloomington, Indiana. He has earned the nickname of "The King" from all of the Championships that he has won. He started racing in 1978 and is still racing strong with the Outlaws. He holds the record of 20 World of Outlaw Championships. Doug Wolfgang was a legend in the 410 divison from South Dakota. He started racing in 1976 but retired from racing in 1997. He was induced into the Sprint Car Hall of Frame in Knoxville, and other various Sprint Car Hall of Frame around the world.

Dream Race

On Saturday at Port Royal Speedway, there is going to be the Dream Race. This race consists of 40 laps, time trials and heats. The winner collect $12,000. But if the driver who wins the pole and goes back to the tial end of the line and win the race, will collect an extra $12,000. This will be a great race. Legend driver Keith Kauffman is being honored before the racing starts.
